Blake Crawley · Illusive Depth

Where Perception Becomes the Illusion

Close-up magic, mentalism & illusion — performed inches from the impossible, in bars, on stages, and rooms that shouldn't hold a magic show.

A craft built inches from the audience.

Blake Crawley has been immersed in the world of magic since the age of 19, developing his craft in underground settings where proximity, psychology, and audience reaction matter more than spectacle. His early work took shape through close-up and street magic — performed in bars, private gatherings, poker games, and unconventional venues — where every moment depended on real human connection.

In 2016, Blake became a member of the Academy of Magical Arts, earning the opportunity to perform at the Magic Castle, one of the most respected institutions in the world of magic. Since then, his work has continued to evolve through intimate residencies and live performances across Los Angeles.

His style favors immediacy and interaction: cards appear from thin air, thoughts are named aloud, objects multiply, identities are revealed, and impossible moments unfold inches from the audience. While his foundation lies in classic sleight-of-hand and illusion, Blake's work continues to expand into psychological and conceptual territory.

Close-up magic
i.

Close-Up

Card work, object manipulation, and sleight-of-hand performed at arm's length — where every angle is watched, and still nothing follows.

Mentalism
ii.

Mentalism

Thoughts named aloud, identities revealed, decisions predicted before they're made. Intuition that feels uncomfortably precise.

Illusion
iii.

Illusion

Levitation, transformation, and impossible appearances. A foundation in classical illusion extended into psychological territory.

Alongside artist and performer Amy Stargher, Blake is one half of Velvet Illusions — a stage-based duo that challenges the traditional magician-and-assistant dynamic.

Rather than positioning one performer in control, the act explores shifting power, sensuality, and narrative through illusion. Performances are designed as immersive theatre — where roles evolve, expectations are subverted, and storytelling takes center stage.

Born in unconventional spaces and shaped by experimentation, Velvet Illusions continues to redefine what a modern magic show can be: theatrical, intimate, and unapologetically bold.
